RBC Youth BIOlab reaches incredible milestone

More than 50,000 students in Manitoba have visited the lab

The Youth BIOlab at the St. Boniface Hospital Albrechtsen Research Centre is a space for students and teachers to explore and experience real biomedical science in a world-class research centre.

The 2016-2017 school year was an exciting one for the lab – it broke attendance records with more than 4,800 students in grades 4-12 visiting the BIOlab at the Research Centre, and another 1,500 students learning about BIOlab science in the classroom. The program also reached a significant milestone, having seen more than 50,000 students from across Manitoba since full time outreach began in 2005. The lab has seen 18,000 students since opening in 2013.

The Youth BIOlab was built with support from Manitoba Education, the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), and the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation. With the support of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the lab works in partnership with school divisions in the province to connect St. Boniface Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital Research to classroom learning.

With the installation of state-of-the-art videoconferencing equipment funded by St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, the lab hopes to be able to expand its reach to northern and remote communities in the 2017-2018 school year.

St. Boniface Hospital Foundation is proud to support and fundraise for St. Boniface Hospital Research’s RBC Youth BIOlab.
