No Frills raises funds for Canadian Centre for Agri-Food Research in Health and Medicine (CCARM) at St. Boniface Hospital

Charity drive supports hope, healing, and world-class research

Brigitte Kemp-Chaput, Manager, Donor Relations and Events at St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, accepts a generous cheque from No Frills manager Cody Friesen on March 9, 2017. They are joined by Dr. Peter Zahradka from CCARM, No Frills employees, and a No Frills customer.

Thank you to our friends at No Frills (161 Goulet Street location) for supporting world-class food and nutrition research at St. Boniface Hospital with their charity food drive!

From February 16 – March 2, shoppers at No Frills gave donations to St. Boniface Hospital Foundation. This is the second year in a row that No Frills has run a charity drive supporting the Foundation, raising a total of $3430.28. Last year, No Frills raised funds for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), while this year’s funds will go toward helping researchers at St. Boniface Hospital’s Canadian Centre for Agri-Food Research in Health and Medicine (CCARM) continue to find ways to improve your health through functional foods. A total of $1,545.70 was raised and we are so grateful.

CCARM is dedicated to investigating and understanding the potential health benefits of functional foods like lingonberries and flax seed, as well as nutraceuticals and natural health products. Approximately 20 clinical research trials were active last year, testing the health-benefits of everything from peas, to lentils, to canola oil. These vital funds from No Frills will allow important CCARM research projects to continue to move forward and make life-changing discoveries.

St. Boniface Hospital Foundation is proud to support and fundraise for CCARM.To learn more, visit http://www.sbrc.ca/ccarm/ and www.researchwashere.com. To donate to CCARM, please visit: https://www.saintboniface.ca/foundation/en/donate/.
